Psychiatrist

The psychiatrist is the only specialist in mental illness who can make a diagnosis based on a comprehensive assessment that includes a mental and physical examination, laboratory tests, medical imaging and a detailed psychosocial history.

Psychiatrists assess, diagnose, treat and prevent mental disorders, which may exhibit emotional, cognitive or behavioural disturbances, either alone or in combination with other medical or surgical disorders, at all stages of life.
