Obstetrician and Gynecologist
The obstetrician-gynecologist assists women in all the important stages of their lives: from birth to adolescence, maternity, menopause and all stages of a woman's life. Their scope of practice is vast. They work on several aspects of global health, be it the treatment of various pathologies affecting the feminine aspects of health and reproduction, the prevention or the promotion of women's health.
The obstetrician-gynecologist has a very diversified practice. They can perform a variety of diagnostic tests including ultrasonography, cystoscopy, hysteroscopy, etc. They perform both simple and complex surgical procedures, ranging from curettage of the uterine cavity, pelvic floor reconstruction or more severe pelvic pathologies to oncology surgery. They also perform normal or instrumental childbirths and caesarean sections. The obstetrical component of the specialty also brings its share of urgent situations to manage, including hemorrhages during pregnancy and postpartum, unstable ectopic pregnancies or emergency deliveries.
This specialty has several specialized areas that are constantly being developed, including urogynecology, gyneco-oncology, infertility and reproduction, maternal-fetal medicine (high-risk pregnancies) and minimally invasive surgery.
