The geriatrician is the medical specialist who takes care of the elderly.
The geriatrician specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease in the very elderly.
Their intervention is aimed at maintaining, if not restoring, the functional autonomy of seniors and takes into account the psychological and social aspects of aging and illness. The geriatrician also participates in the organization of health care for the entire elderly population.
